Frequently asked questions

Short answers, honestly given. Anything else: hola@marubozu.xyz.

What is MARUBOZU?

An iOS app that teaches you to read candlestick charts: the 24 candles, the 65 patterns, the 19 western chart formations, and the chart around them — support, resistance, trend, structure. A 22-day course, daily practice on real historical charts, and honest statistics measured on our own data.

Does it tell me when to buy or sell?

No. Never. MARUBOZU is education, not signals. Nothing in the app is investment advice, and no statistic in it predicts the future — they describe how often a shape was historically followed by an outcome. Many of the most famous patterns hover near a coin flip in our data, and the app tells you exactly that.

What is free, and what is Premium?

Free is a complete journey: the 24 candles with their complete study cards, the 22-day course, the daily challenge and its archive, quiz and review with questions on real charts, unlimited practice on real charts (Find the shape, The structure, Does it weigh here?), the dojo grades, your reading journal, the trio of the month, the glossary in four languages, one "What happened next?" session a month, a first coached reading with the professor and three blind duels — plus the first one you are challenged to, which does not count. Premium (€9.99/month or €89.99/year) unlocks the 65 patterns and the 19 western formations, with their quiz and review; the full statistics with horizons and regimes; Course II «The chart», with a check at the end of each lesson; "What happened next?" with no monthly limit; the trio library; thirty blind duels a month; and the professor: 10 coached readings a month, his comment at the close of each session and his Sunday letter.

What is a blind duel?

You and another person read the same real chart without seeing each other’s answer and without knowing how it ended — not even the person who created it has seen it. When both readings are sealed, the chart finishes candle by candle and the professor weighs both. Creating a duel and inviting someone is always free; a credit is spent only when the outcome is revealed. A challenge is for one person: whoever seals first is the one who plays. The interpretation matters more than the outcome, so nobody wins points.

How does the free trial work?

The annual plan includes a 7-day free trial for new subscribers — the paywall shows the exact date of the first charge before you confirm, and cancelling before that date costs nothing. The monthly plan has no free trial; instead, new subscribers pay €4.99 for the first month and the regular €9.99 afterwards. Apple allows one introductory offer per person, and its payment sheet always shows your exact terms. Billing is handled entirely by Apple through your Apple ID.

How do I cancel?

On your iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → MARUBOZU → Cancel. The same steps are written inside the app, under Settings → “How to cancel”. Cancelling keeps Premium until the end of the period you already paid for. Refunds are handled by Apple through reportaproblem.apple.com.

Where do the statistics come from?

From our own measurement: tens of thousands of pattern events detected with published rules over years of historical daily data from a public exchange, with pre-registered horizons and honest flags where the sample is small. The app's “How we measure” screen explains the method. No chart in the app is live data, and we show derived statistics, never raw feeds.

Who is Kyōshi?

The app's professor — the monk in our logo. Some of his answers are generated text written by a language model in his voice. He coaches your reading and explains what is drawn on a chart; he will never tell you what to do with one, and he does not comment on the present or future of any real instrument. Generated text can be wrong: treat it as a teacher's opinion.

Do I need an account?

You can study without one. An account (your email plus a six-digit code, no password) is needed for the things that live server-side: your subscription and Kyōshi's coaching. Your learning progress lives on your device.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Settings → danger zone → delete account. It deletes the account and its server-side data. Your local progress stays on the device, and any subscription must be cancelled separately in your Apple ID subscriptions — deleting an account never cancels a subscription.

What data do you collect?

Remarkably little: your email, an optional name, your subscription status, and aggregate usage behaviour — never the content you write, no GPS (only your approximate country, derived from the connection), no contacts, no advertising identifiers, nothing sold to anyone. The full detail is in the privacy policy.

What languages does it speak?

English, Spanish and Italian — the whole app: course, study cards, glossary, practice and Kyōshi. Japanese pattern names are taught with their original names and meanings.

Can I invite a friend?

Yes — Settings → “Invite a friend”. When someone joins with your code, you both get 3 days of Premium; and if they stay — if they subscribe — you add 7 more. Days of access, never money. Genuine invitations only: creating accounts to refer yourself voids the rewards, and there is a yearly cap per account.
